Budapest Brunchin'Where to Have Breakfast (apart from your kitchen) by Sakhi Ganeriwala From a new-girl-in-town perspective, here are the Budapest brunch spots that stole my heart. This is how I ate my way through the city so far. Á La Maison On Szervita tér, at a new location, this French-style bistro brings you delicacies from the sweet and salty world. At A La Maison, the menu truly has something for everyone. You want waffles with shrimp and eggs (appetizing for some), they've got it! You want to customize your plates with a variety of toppings, just ask! And most importantly, you can order the American Pancakes and Belgian Waffles even at 4:30PM. It's an all-day offer, posing as a blessing in disguise. I ordered the Eggs Benedict (for the VERY FIRST TIME), suggested by a vegetarian friend, (Courtesy: @MahiBaid): Poached Eggs, slice of Ham, and the Hollandaise drizzle. I paired it with a Mimosa, without which I believe any brunch is incomplete. My friend sided her Mushroom Toast (the dish I will be ordering the next time I visit the bistro) with Hot Chocolate, which came out in Mason jar looking like a neat chocolate explosion. Reasonably priced. Stika Stika is the crowd pleasing brunch spot that gets the hip-chic vibe exactly right. Tiny but so cute, Stika takes up a corner in District 7, comprising of a front yard terrace, looking onto the crossroads. This all-day breakfast and brunch place doesn't fail to please! Its sleek wooden interior, paired with its perfect bacon & eggs, home-made coffee, and pancakes, makes your morning, afternoon or evening all the better! Look out for those long lines though. Because of its limited seating, you might find yourself waiting for a while. It was my luck that my food was "on the house!" because of the long time I waited, but is that going to work every time? Haha! Cirkusz One mimosa leads to two, which leads to a couple more. This place is so cozy, you never want to leave. Cirkusz sits in the heart of the Jewish quarter, where its menu pleases your savory and sweet cravings! The New York Salmon Bagel definitely was my favorite (ironic, since Budapest is nowhere near water), while other favorites included the English breakfast and the Eggs Benedict. Of course, if you end up at Cirkusz after a long night out, they'll serve you their special Recovery Breakfast :). All said and done, don't forget to get a cup of their famous BAGIRA coffee. Their in-house brand coffee is sure to please those passionate coffee lovers! Coffee seeds from "esteemed plantations," allow Cirkusz to serve a variety of flavors, so feel free to be picky! Szimply
Note: Szimply is not your everyday "bacon & eggs" brunch place. Szimply is the definition of the minimalistic interior; a couple of lamps in the corners, wooden tables and chairs, and some seats outside of the door for when the line is too long. It doesn't sell coffee, because its neighbor does :) While you wait for your table, be sure to walk a few meters and grab a cup of coffee. Szimply's hearty & healthy breakfast selection changes every month! It has everything; Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten-Free options. From the May Savory menu, I tried the Potato, Avocado, Eggs, and Zucchini. I couldn't be more pleased! The fresh vegetables, creamy sauces, and perfectly grated truffles made their way onto my plate. Later, the famous Szimply birthday cake added a sweet and exciting twist. With its changing menu, Szimply is sure to keep its quality the same. A must, and highly recommended visit!
